Have you ever wondered what it was like to attend class in a one-room schoolhouse? We have the answers. West Harmony School, built in 1895, will be open during museum hours on Saturday, August 17. Two of our veteran one-room schoolteachers, Geannene Piper and Karen Menching, will be there to answer any questions from 1 to 4 p.m.. We’ll have pioneer games, including stick and hoop, and cup and ballf, or the children to play. Write on a slate, even ring the school bell. Originally located at 19114 Harmony Road in Marengo, West Harmony School closed in 1955. The building was relocated to Riley Center, behind the Riley Methodist Church, and used for storage prior to being moved to the museum campus.
