1860 Baseball Game

As they'd say back in the day, Saturday's tilt between the McHenry County Independants and the Grayslake Athlietics was a "real corker." Dogged by rain and a soupy diamond, the teams instead laid out their own field on the grass balloon launching site. That, in turn led to the game being called in the seventh inning, as the gas jets inflated gigantic balloons for the launch.. However, the Indepenants were able to mount a run-tieing rally at the top fo the inning to knot the score at 8. Several hundred people showed up to watch the goings on, which featured sliding catches, spinning foul-ball hits, watersoaked base balls and (yet another) apoology by Independants' managerKurt Begalka – this time for sliding. The partisan crowd remained unmoved. Several hundred people braved the cool temperatures and dampness, including a few hardy souls from McHenry County. Huzzah to one and all!
